Living it

The round starts at seven, dew heavy on the fairway, clubs cooling in the trunk. There's nowhere else to be until the course releases you. Lunch stretches through the clubhouse, the kind of table where you don't check your phone, just pour another drink and talk about the birdie you almost made. Afternoon brings either a second round or a quiet nap somewhere with the curtains drawn. Evening is dinner somewhere you don't have to cook — the steakhouse, the Italian place, or back home where someone else handled the grill. You fall asleep thinking about that putt from the ninth hole, wondering if tomorrow will be the day you finally sink it.
